RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT
Existing and ongoing work in EU RTD (projects, networks and co-oridation actions etc.)

EU-MEDIN : The EU-MEDIN project aims to improve the interaction and synergy between the actors of the European research in the field of Natural Risks and Disasters.

HarsNet : A thematic network on hazard assessment of highly reactive systems. HarsNet aims at contributing to the design of intrinsically safe processes, giving precedence to prevention in front of protection, and reducing the probability of the runaway to a minimum.

Prism (Process Industries Safety Management) : The Objective of PRISM is the improvement of safety in the European process industries through raising awareness of, and sharing experience in, the application of human factors approaches. In addition the network aims to stimulate the development and improvement of human factor approaches in order to address industry-relevant problems in batch and continuous process industries.

S2S : A Gateway for Plant and Process Safety. The network aims at a) connecting people working on safety topics, b) analysing the future RTD strategy, c) collecting, evaluating and offering available information, d) developing interactive risk assessment tools and training methods, and e) establishing a dialogue to legislation and standardisation

ESRA : ESRA Association is a non-profit international association for the advance and application of safety and reliability technology in all areas of human endeavour. It is an "umbrella" organisation with a membership consisting of: national professional societies, industrial organisations and higher education institutions. The common interest is safety and reliability.

TRENDS : The TRENDS Thematic Network brings together organisations from across Europe, to address the present and future challenges in the health, safety, environmental and quality (HSEQ) aspects of hydrocarbon energy production.

NEW OSH ERA: The NEW OSH ERA project helped to combine the strengths of the different EU Member States in occupational safety and health (OSH) research.By increasing cooperation and coordination between different research programmes, NEW OSH ERA helped increase the overall scale and effectiveness of the research carried out in the EU. The networking and integration of national programmes helped EU researchers understand the increasingly complicated OSH issues that we face, and so contribute to the productivity and well-being of Europe's workers.

TNO has created a digital learn & work environment called the Resilience Innovation Lab. The aim of the lab is to further the concept of resilience and thus provide for safer and more robust operations.

The CCPS Process Safety Beacon is a resource aimed at delivering process safety messages to plant operators and other manufacturing personnel. The Process Safety Beacon is sponsored and produced by CCPS. The monthly one-page Process Safety Beacon covers the breadth of process safety issues. Each issue presents a real-life accident, and describes the lessons learned and practical means to prevent a similar accident in your plant.
